A good day

Jae

Today was a good day. I feel invincible it’s making me see blooming roses and singing birds everywhere!

I snatched my jacket at 9 a.m. on a Saturday morning, and dashed out of my house to find a store that sells newspapers.

It’s the first time my news story is published in a prominent Canadian national newspaper. I had to see the paper myself to believe it.

I walked over to the newsstand, took an edition of the Globe and Mail and flipped the pages at lightning speed to find my story. My heart was pounding loudly. Then, I saw the title “He found the freedom in 16 bars” peek out at the bottom of the second page in the Toronto section.

I happily paid the pricy $3.50 to the store clerk. I couldn’t help grinning from cheek to cheek as I skipped back home in the winter snow. This has been a HUGE validation for me in my journalism pursuit.

I ran home and showed it to my mom. She was also ecstatic after she saw the byline, her daughter’s name, underneath the article title. I think in her mind, she’s slowly accepting my new career path and putting more faith in me.

This event has given me the confidence and faith I need to keep going in my current path to realize my visions and goals in journalism.

Having friends and teachers read, comment and congratulate my article on Facebook have also made me feel so much closer to actualizing my dreams.

I’m ready to take on 2014 and become the journalist I always dreamed of.

Having the courage to follow your heart really does pay off 🙂
